The #3 MUST-HAVE is defined as: Knowledge, experience developing components and assemblies optimized for high volume manufacturing. This includes designing for specific fabrication and assembly methods, but also testing and validation methods used to ensure that large populations of products meet satisfactory performance and yield. A strong understanding of engineering statistics and statistical methods for manufacturing. Intimate knowledge and ease with bell curves, standard distributions, RSS, tolerance analysis, poka-yoke, assembly touch time minimization, preferred materials, and understanding of the cumulative costs associated with embarking on big manufacturing efforts. Etc. And for the low volume success: an understanding of what actions from above apply to low volume and which could be considered superfluous given the lower volumes.

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will have strong and effective communications skills to coordinate with a cross-and development of next generation

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will have strong and effective communications skills to coordinate with a cross-and development of next generation LED lighting products. Cross functional team to meet very aggressive performance, cost and schedule goals.  These communication skills will be critical when partnering with the management of outside resources for design, prototyping, and testing of new fixtures and concepts.   In-depth expertise in manufacturing technologies is a prerequisite including experience in injection molded and extruded plastics, die-cast and extruded aluminum, stamping, forming, and spinning of sheet metal. It is also critical to have knowledge of secondary and finishing operations including by not limited to post mold/cast machining, anodization, painting, hard coating, and vacuum metallization.   Since we are developing high technology lighting fixtures, broad experience with products requiring electronics packaging, thermal management, and aesthetic requirements are very important.   The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will also create 2D drawings, BOMs, and other documentation necessary for product implementation; vendor selection; tooling trials (on-site and otherwise) to determine form, fit, and functionality; documentation of new inventions and interaction with outside counsel to protect them.
